MAC M·a·cximal Silky Matte Lipstick

Here I am wearing the MAC M-A-Cximal Silky Matte Lipstick in Velvet Teddy.
1. Pigmentation & Colour Payoff
- Opacity: 1-2 swipes of this lipstick will give 100% opacity.
- Consistency: The colour is consistent across the lips, with no patchiness.
- Accuracy: The colour on the lips matches the colour of the lipstick in the tube.
2. Texture & Formula Application
- Glide: The lipstick glides smoothly over the lips, with no tugging or pulling.
- Weight: This formula feels extremely lightweight, like nothing is on the lips.
- Initial Set: It felt as though the lipstick set almost instantly after application. After 15 minutes, the lipstick still transferred onto a can of soda I was drinking.
3. Finish & Aesthetic Performance
- Type: The lipstick is certainly matte, but is also somewhat velvety.
- Texture Masking: The lipstick blurs the lines on my lips.
- Luster Stability: The matte remains matte and doesn’t become chalky.
4. Comfort & Hydration (Wear-Cycle Feel)
- Surface Tension: The lipstick wears extremely comfortably against the lips. It doesn’t feel tight at all.
- Moisture Level: The lipstick had a very nice level of moisturization and hydration for the lips.
- Stickiness: No stickiness, whatsoever.
5. Longevity & Durability
- Hour Benchmarks: 2 hr – Good so far | 4hr – No good, a lot of the lipstick has flaked off, leaving large swaths of my lips uncovered.
- Survival: It didn’t survive at all.
- Fade Pattern: It flakes and crumbles.
6. Transfer & Migration Resistance
- Smudge Test: For the length that it stayed on my lips, it didn’t smudge outside of my lip line.
- Transfer Level: There has been some transfer, as I tested it on my hand skin. It is possible that I hadn’t let the lipstick fully set before performing the test.
7. Sensory Profile
- Scent: Oh, do I love the smell of chocolate! The smell is moderate, and if you are sensitive to scents, this might not be the best lipstick for you.
- Taste: No taste at all.
8. Hardware & Packaging (The Component)
- Applicator/Shape: The slanted teardrop end of the lipstick makes defining the cupid’s bow, and other detail work a breeze.
- Build Quality: The cap is securely attached to the component body, and the twisting mechanism operates smoothly. It feels like a quality component.
9. Value & Price Point
- Payload vs. Price: The only information I can find is the WEIGHT of the lipstick, 3.5 grams. If we take the price of $34 Canadian before taxes and divide it by the weight of 3.5 grams, we get $9.71/gram. So the lipstick works out to $9.71/gram. I would consider this mid-range pricing for a lipstick, unless you ignore luxury lipsticks from the likes of Louis Vuitton, in which case it would be on the higher end of the price spectrum.
- Performance vs. Claims: MAC makes the following claims for the lipstick: Conditions and Nourishes lips. Immediate and 8-hour moisture. Comfortable Formula. Lips look visibily fuller for 12-hours. Long wearing and colour true, 12 hours. Non-feathering and non-bleeding, 12 hours. Non-flaking and non-caking, 12 hours.
10. Final Thoughts
I really like the colour and smell of this lipstick. Unfortunately, the wear test was cut short because most of the lipstick had flaked off my lips. I am wondering if this is due to my error in not allowing the lipstick to set. I am going to perform the wear test again and see what results I get. I also think that I might have applied more lipstick than I needed to. I will amend this page with the updated information once it is completed on Sunday, March 22, 2026.
